After last week's performance the team came into this game high on confidence and they picked up exactly where they left off. The tempo was high right from the start and it stayed there for both games against Uttoxeter's A and B teams. Yet again, the phases were tied together, the rucking was strong, the support was there throughout and the defence is growing in effectiveness week on week. The first game was drawn and the second game was lost by a single try and could have been drawn had Phoebe not been tackled into touch with the penultimate play of the game.
Today's first Captain, Phoebe led her team out and as ever carried well throughout and her hooking is getting stronger each week. TJ's energy levels never seem to run out, his movement around the pitch was excellent, and his kicking is getting ever more refined. Harry P had one of his strongest performances with a couple of arcing runs seeking out space around the edges and put in some confident tackles. Reuben also had one of his best games with some strong running and confident rucking. As Captain for the second game, Ryley played well and put in a few crunching tackles and was very quick off the back of the scrums to make good territorial gains. Oscar carried the ball well into contact and fought hard to recycle the ball to keep the momentum moving forwards. Harry S also put in another strong performance with some confident carries which drew in plenty of defenders to bring him down. Finally, with a Player of the Match performance, Connor had an excellent performance with strong carries, big tackles, and topped it all off with a hard fought try. A shout out to Tommy for coming to support the team and help with the warm-up and drills before the game.
As we go into our final few training sessions ahead of the last two game weeks of the season, we'll keep building on this trajectory. The team are brimming with confidence and playing their best rugby of the season and this will be the platform we use to press onwards.
Thank you again to all parents, family members and guardians for braving the drizzle and mud to support the team. We have an excellent atmosphere pitch-side and I know the players benefit from it!
