[b]Final scores:[
Rugeley 9 - Trentham 6
Rugeley 9 - Longton 7
It was a surprise when we arrived this morning to find that we had 2 games ahead of us. We were to play Trentham and Longton!
This didn't phase the team and they even asked if it was a little rugby festival!
It didn't take long to get into the game. Longton scored and this seemed to activate the team and from there they were unstoppable, with every player falling into position.
We were the attacking team throughout. Following last weeks game they really built on positioning and defense in both games. They have started to listen and their spatial awareness has improved along with their ability to chase down the attacking plays.
Overall the game was an exciting watch and they were definately our games.
George (The Beast), our team captain today. George likes to get his head down but I put him more on the wing today to enable him to get a bigger picture of the game. George's game today was more defense than attack but still pushed through when the opportunity arose taking on some of the much bigger players. Still played some great rugby even though he was in a slightly different position. Well done George.
Wynter (The Amazonian), now we know these mythical female warriors exist as one now plays for Rugeley U9s! This was Wynter's debut game following one training session but you wouldn't know it and she managed to bag player of the match today. She got stuck in from the get go and wherever the ball was, she was. She showed no fear when it came to tackles and often needed 6 players to bring her down. A great game well done Wynter.
William (Roadrunner). A very different game today for Will, having a smaller pitch limited his ability for those long fast runs and he became more of a defensive player. He chased down the ball and was a more hands on player, but still managed to use those legs and score some good trys. Well done Will.
Joe (The Ghost). Joe got stuck in from the first whistle. Joe has the ability to see where the play is heading and reacts accordingly, he always seems to know where the ball is going to go. Joe's understanding of the game is improving and he clearly understands the rules, informing me of infringements. His tackling today was very impressive and Joe is a really good all round player. Some great rugby today Joe.
Molly (Boudicca). Molly is continuing to improve even after the break. Her confidence is growing and during todays games she really drove the play forward. Her positioning was good and she was able to see the gaps in our defense. She didn't stop even when the biggest player on the pitch tackled her. A great supporting role today, well done Molly.
Joel (Terminator). Joel got stuck in as though he had never been away. He used his power and speed in attacking and defending, driving the ball forward right into their defensive line, resulting in some good trys. Rugby seems to be his game and he shows no fear when playing, getting involved at every opportunity. A great team player, well done Joel.
Henry (The Wall), as ever is one of the most enthusiastic players, he LOVES the game! The more he learns the more confident he becomes. His grasp of the game is improving and it shows in his skill. His defensive playing is really improving and he is becoming a really good team player, with a smile on his face. Well done on a great game Henry.
Quinn (Legs). Today with a smaller pitch he was able to get more involved with the drive. I choose to place Quinn in a more central position and he took the opportunity and challenge in full attack mode. Today he's used his other skills and was able to drive the ball forward into their defense hard. A fast and powerful player, great play today Quinn.
Elliot (Honeybadger). Elliot's mind is on the game as soon as he arrives. The bigger the players the more it encourages him to play hard. He is able to switch between attacking and defending with ease. Elliot moves around the pitch supporting wherever he can and is always on the ball. As always showed great sportsmanship today, high fiving all the parents after every Rugeley try...even the oppositions parents! Well done Elliot.
Areas still to work on, although we have shown massive improvement the team need to understand that when there are more players (9 aside today) there may be less individual ball time. So we need to work on being more supportive players. We will continue to work on our spatial awareness as I think Adam's voice may take some recovery from shouting "Spread out!" so much! We will also keep working on our passing.
Well done team on some great games today, Burntwood next week and thanks to Trentham for being our hosts today.
