Under 9s first contact match

Oliver Howard25 Sep 2022 - 17:54

Nerves at the start but they smashed it!

The morning started with a bit of apprehension as all of their contact training was now going to come into practice for the first time.

A bit of a tentative start but they soon warmed up and got into the swing of things. Managing to score some good try’s in the first half.

After dropping behind a little they soon pulled it back in the last quarter and ended with a draw, the final dramatic try being scored by Quinn.

George, our team captain today (The Beast!) pushed through the defence with great force and never let up!

Quinn (Legs!), didn’t stop the chase and found any gap possible which earned the team some great trys.

Henry (The Wall!), did some great defending, was always with the ball but may need a scrum cap as almost got his first cauliflower ear at the tender age of 8!

Elliot (Honey badger!), took down players twice his size with no fear with a smile on his face. He showed great sportsmanship, making sure all players were ok including the opposition.

William (Roadrunner!), fast legs and was great at finding the gaps in the defence. He knows how to take a heavy tackle and get up after, showing great resilience.

Overall a great first game and will work on our defensive lines and positioning. Special thanks to Willenhall for loaning us their players and showing great sportsmanship, but bring on the full Rugeley squad next time!
