On a wet and windy Friday evening, Rugeley Rugby Club took the epic journey to Penkridge to battle it out in the South Staffordshire Touch Series.
We formed two teams for the tournament Rugeley Rangers and the Racoons. All of those who played attend our touch training on a Thursday night 7pm at Rugeley Rugby Club.
The team consisted of all different ages and abilities, including 3 non-rugby playing women, which is encouraged by the organisers of the series. During the tournament we took on 12 other teams from neighbouring towns Cannock, Eccleshall, Essington, Stafford and WAP.
Both of our teams put in some great performances despite the weather and the wet, muddy ground. Massive congratulations to Francesca Leone on her first tournament also Jake Wakeman a returning former junior player.
Rangers came 7th out of 14 despite having a player sent off during a game (Martin de Ridder), and the Racoons placed 11th.
Special mention to Martin who not only played but refereed during the tournament, also to Jacob Graham who only came over as a spectator to watch his magnificent girlfriend but ended up playing a game whilst Martin refereed another.
Thank you to WAP for being great hosts and putting on food after the tournament, also thank you to all that turned up to play from Rugeley.
