Under 7s match report – 29/09/19

By Rob Blount

Whilst the u5s and 6s had a training session Rugeley under 7s got their season underway in wet conditions at Cannock on Sunday morning. With this being the majority of the players first competitive outing the game got off to a shaky start. A number of forward passes and other small infractions from both sides slowed the pace down for the first 5 minutes, but once the players settled into the game they played with great enthusiasm and began to attack the space well with impressive speed. We have a few bits to focus on in training over the next couple of weeks, but all of the players should be incredibly proud of their performance today.

TJ CARTER
Showed some great speed, particularly with ball in hand, regularly exposing gaps in the opposition defence to score try's.

NATE DAVIES
Nathan closed down space well in defence making it very difficult for Cannock to break through the line, the highlight of which was taking a tag close to his own line to stop a try.

JAMES PETERS
James spotted  and exposed gaps in the wide channels really well and was very vocal in defence organising the line.

CHARLIE BLOUNT
Charlie showed great enthusiasm and played a big part in defence today, positioning himself very well and listening to his team mates.

We’re training next week at 10AM. Hope to see you all there.

U8s Match Report vs Cannock

A fun but unusual morning at Cannock.

We got there to be told Cannock hadn’t got an under 8s tag team so we had an internal match ourselves sending the u7s to play against an assortment of the inexperienced Cannock players.

We told the U8s to focus on catching and running forward and they showed these skills well

The lads were a bit disappointed it wasn’t a proper match and weren’t as focused as they normally would

MAX EDWARDS was as competitive as ever and was very good in defence.

LENNY was quick thinking and kept scoring tries.

JAYDEN BIRNIE passing was great and his running forward.

EOIN DE RIDDER likes to score a sneaky try and was always thing to catch the other team out.

LAURENCE HAYES adopted a laid back approach but made some good yards when he got the ball.

PRESTON TAPPER ran with a smile on his face when he had the ball and a grimace when he didn’t.

MAN OF THE MATCH: SAM MICKLEWRIGHT was the one player who just got on with the fact it wasn’t a proper match and showed his mature attitude to score 4 tries

TRAINING NEXT WEEK. We hopefully have a match vs Barton on 13th October.

Match report for Rugeley Under 9s

We arrived this morning at a drizzly Cannock. However, for the first game of their tackling career the under 9s did not let this ‘dampen’ their spirits. They played 3 10 minute games.

The under 9s did not hold back and on the first whistle went straight in for tackle after tackle. All throughout the game, even when the game wasn’t going their way the team kept their heads high and kept pushing Cannock into touch. Cannock had some clear runs while Rugeley composed themselves and got back in the game. Overall an outstanding effort from all the team especially considering this was their first contact game and match of the season.

ETHAN SALT
Amazing tackling, safe and forward thinking at all times

HAYDEN TERRY
Quick pace, focussed on the game and quick hands. Remember the hand off can’t be used yet ??

CAIN TURTON
Cain held back at first but once he became confident in the game he handled tackling really well and his passing was fantastic

MACI ENSOR
Only girl on the pitch today, kept in the game at al times, fast pace and enthusiastic. Just need to focus on some tackling ??

HAYDEN HISCOX
Very fast, quick hands, made a lot of tackles and looked for his team. Just need to focus on running toward ??

OLIVER GOSS
Held back at first and once he had a pep talk from Baggy he became completely engrossed in the game and made some fantastic runs and tackles. Great try towards the end!

ALFIE WILSON
Alfie our on his Usain Bolt shoes. Great runs through the pack and showed great team spirit. Lets just keep out of touch ??

FINLEY HAYES
Fast paced, great tackles. Fantastic use of the touch line. Let’s hear your calls for true ball ? ?

Thank you to everyone that came.

Baggy’s man of the match was Hayden Terry

Baggy’s sportsmanship award goes to Ethan Salt for always making sure the opposition were ok
